Calm After the Storm

Calm After the Storm? The Hurricane Aftermath

You know the expression “The calm after the storm”, right? Right now we think “calm” doesn’t quite fit. How about you?

As I’m sure you are well aware, the past few months have been tragic and devastating. With four back-to-back hurricanes, all category 3 or above, this has been the 17th deadliest hurricane season in America since the year 1900. Yeah, you read that right!

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria have cost almost 200 billion dollars in damages to the states affected. And the death toll has been recorded at approximately 103. (Which by the way, is a lot less than the previous calamities. Shout-out to improved alarm systems and timely evacuations!)

So, we got the stats on the Hurricanes.
They are over and done with now, aren’t they?
Not quite.

After the storms pass, we don’t hear about it much. The camera crews leave and the victims are left to deal with the devastation the hurricanes have left behind. It’s time to clean-up the impacted areas – and it’s one heck of a job! It takes months, sometimes years to get things back in order.

Thanks to volunteers from all over the world, there are crews working diligently in disaster areas. (Including Bethenny Frankel and her crew in Puerto Rico!)

As the volunteers will be dealing with heavily contaminated water, heat stress, electrical hazards and various other dangers during the clean-up, it is imperative that they stay protected with coveralls.
