No big deal to install shingles on rooftops, eh? At least for all of us in the construction world, it’s not the hardest job out there. As long as you have shingles, powered nail guns and some muscle you should be good. Am I right?
Wrong. And just in case you weren’t aware of exactly how wrong it is, OSHA is making sure we all know.
On November 1st 2016, OSHA released a citation for a roofing company in Florida who constantly puts their employees at risk on the job, in hazardous situations, without proper personal protection.
Collins Roofing Inc. has been caught in the act 8 times in the past 5 years and still fails to protect its employees properly. The roofers were seen without proper fall protection.
According to OSHA, a roof or landing over 6 ft. requires some sort of fall protection which includes guardrails, fall arrest systems or safety net systems. The Collins Roofing employees were also not wearing eye protection at all.
$142,865 is the whopping fine for Collins Roofing in Deland, Florida.
Protect your employees, it pays.
