On July 18th 2016, OSHA cited a boat manufacturer in Nashville, Georgia for three safety violations. OSHA issued one repeated and two serious safety violations to Chaparral Boats, a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats.
Chaparral Boats exposed employees to dust particulates above the permissible exposure limit and failed to require employees to wear respiratory protection. OSHA also cited them for failing to implement administrative controls relating to airborne particles.
The penalties for Chaparral Boats sum to a total of $47,000.
Unbelievably, OSHA cited Chaparral Boats for the same violation back in 2013! In December 2013 the company was cited for the violations above, plus failure to provide medical exams for their employees.
OSHA released the following statement: “Like all employers, Chaparral Boats has the obligation to protect workers from… excessive dust from cutting and grinding operations. Failing to do so can lead to long-term respiratory disease.”
