As November comes to a close, so does No-Shave November, or more-amicably referred to as, Mustache Movember.
Mustache Movember is an annual event where men grow their mustaches to raise awareness about men’s health issues.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 7 men and is estimated to cause 26,120 deaths in 2016, by the American Cancer Society. [1] And while today there is nothing one can do to prevent prostate cancer and testicular cancer, there are other causes of death which can be 100% prevented.
There are over 13 deaths a day on the job. [2] Most can be prevented. [3]
This week I read about a wood-chipper in New York who died the first day on the job. He didn’t receive the proper training before he starting working and it caused a fatality. Training can seem insignificant, right? Wrong. It caused a death in this case.
And then I came across another story on OSHA’s website, about a 28 year old fellow working in a bakery who lost his arm. He was cleaning the bread machine and it wasn’t properly guarded. That’s because the bakery, Klosterman Baking Co. based in Cincinnati, Ohio, didn’t follow the lockout/tagout process for maintenance.
There is a reason why OSHA created all these laws and regulations around worksite safety.
Good reason.
Don’t be a statistic. See what you need to protect yourself on OSHA’s website and check out our PPE which can help save your life. It pays.
