Hardhat Colors: What You Need to Know

Hard hats can be found in many colors and styles. Not sure what to make of all the colors? Here’s a quick guide to point you in the right direction.

Color Coding:

Some employers use the color of a hat to indicate rank or position. While this system varies from company to company, the most common designations are outlined below.

WHITE HATS are usually reserved for management and architects. Engineers may wear them as well. Additionally, sometimes visitors to a site wear white hard hats too.

Construction workers with no specialty commonly wear YELLOW HATS.

BROWN HARD HATS are typically worn by welders. Workers who work with high heat may also wear brown hats.

BLUE HATS are mostly worn by electricians and plumbers. Medical personnel on site also usually wear blue hats.

Generally, ORANGE HARD HATS are reserved for pavement and road construction workers.

Popular Colors:

If you’re looking to buy a hardhat and are unsure about the color you need, check with your employer first. If you have the ability to choose a color for yourself, the world of hard hat colors is all yours! While white, yellow and orange hard hats are the most popular choice, why not try something bolder like bright green, or even hot pink. Go get ‘em!
